Ira Parks (Charles Grodin), and he recognizes Nick as his wife Glenda’s ex-husband. The already bad situation turns worse when his photo winds up at the office of Los Angeles D.A. Nick isn’t so lucky, and soon his dull-faced security close-up is being sent to police all over the state. They strong-arm Nick into robbing the bank for them, netting them the cash while keeping their faces off the security cameras. A pair of bank robbers kidnaps him from his home and forces him to drive them to a bank they intend to knock over. Seems Like Old Times was also obviously filmed with TV rights in mind which, during the era when Neil Simon dominated the feel-good comedy market, was not a poor economic choice, though perhaps not the most artistic one.Ĭhevy Chase plays Nicholas Gardenia, a writer who is holed up in an isolated cottage in Northern California to finish his latest project. Though there is a hint of spoof in the upper class lifestyle of Ira and Glenda Parks, it is mostly played straight, their world both safe and comforting to the viewer. There is constant sunlight, a charming house covered in delicate floral patterns and an adorable pack of fuzzy adopted dogs. Unlike Foul Play, which occasionally got violent and a little gritty, Seems Like Old Times is the apotheosis of family friendly. So successful was Foul Play that the pair was teamed up again almost immediately, in another old-fashioned romantic comedy. Seems Like Old Times (1980) was a follow up of sorts to the hit comedy thriller Foul Play (1978), the first pairing of Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. ![]()
